Whitney V. Hunter is an interdisciplinary performance artist and independent curator. He creates and curates for the stage, gallery, and alternative spaces, directs his performance collective Whitney Hunter[MEDIUM], is a Movement Research Artist in Residence, and was featured as one of Trace Magazine’s “7 NYC Dancers on the Rise.”
He has received numerous grants and commissions for the support and creation of his works: Puffin Foundation Grant, Harlem Stages - Fund for New Work Grant, a new work(s) commission from Thelma Hill Performing Arts Center, National Foundation for the Advancement In the Arts Astral Career Grant, and Career Transitions for Dancers).
He teaches nationally and internationally, and has been on faculty of the Long Island University ’s (Brooklyn Campus) Dance Program since 2008. He holds a B.F.A. in Theatre Arts/Dance (Howard University), an M.F.A. in New Media Arts and Performance (Long Island University) and is presently an Institute for the Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts Driskell Fellow.
