KRÄFT at TATWERK | PERFORMATIVE FORSCHUNG

January 22, 2018 at 4pm to January 26, 2018 at 6pm
Was ist stark, was ist schwach?

SELF AWARENESS AND CONTACT DANCE at Tatwerk

January 20, 2018 at 2pm to January 21, 2018 at 5pm
Self awareness and contact dance is a contemporary dance workshop open for all amateurs of movement. A time to express your imagination, sensibility, creativity and collect tools to dance. Through improvisation tasks and excercises, we will start with an individual exploration to connect to sensations, find your own balance, center and play with the notions of weight transfers. I am proposing to the participants to travel between the on and the off balance and search the limits of it in…See More

December 9, 2017 from 7pm to 9pm
"The best thing someone can say to me is that while watching my performance they began to cry. It is not important to understand what I am doing; perhaps it is better if they don't understand, but just respond to the dance." Kazuo OhnoKazuo Ohno met Tatsumi Hijikata in the 1950s and was inspired by the latter to begin cultivating Butoh (originally called Ankoku Butoh, the "Dance of Utter Darkness"). During the 1960s, Ohno sought his own style... In 1977, Ohno premiered his solo Butoh work…See More

November 17, 2017 at 8pm to November 19, 2017 at 10pm
In this production of Hamlet I’m going to play Hamlet and I’m going to do all the soliloquies and it will be really good. Nicole and Ela will play most of the other characters but I will also play some of the other characters because I’m really good at playing lots of characters. There will also be some singing and dancing and even if you don’t like Shakespeare you will like this because we make it really clear and really good. Please come because we’ve been rehearsing for ages and it’s going…See More

Our Approach

An open space at the intersection of theatre, dance and performance, where instruction and learning are combined with experimentation and praxis.

We see Tatwerk as a playground for contemporary approaches to the performing arts. In using the word playground, we voice our fundamental concern with pursuing approaches free of dogma and inhibition, in a space where our work can originate from − and aims to further elaborate on − the intersection of theatre, dance and performance.
We approach the performing arts from a bodily perspective. We believe that our strength and asset is the body, and our language is body movement. The body is stage and platform, medium and matter. Every performance is an enquiry into the aesthetics and boundaries of body strength and expression. In centering attention on the body, we aim to transcend the spoken word. Moreover, as a space for exploring post-dramatic theatre, we also engage in experiments that attempt to abandon the concept of drama altogether.
Tatwerk lives and breathes through the commitment, ideas and work of experts − scholars, performers, dancers, directors − and students alike. With everyone who participates in Tatwerk, we encourage the questioning of boundaries − personal, within the field, according to expectations and conventions − and the setting of new ones. We hope that experts and students will make themselves at home at Tatwerk, and work with us to transform the ways in which theatre, dance and performance − as well as Tatwerk as a space − are expressed and can develop in the future.
