RemoteControl is a physical theatre company from Italy, Norway, the U.S.A. and the U.K. We met at the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris. We collectively devise our pieces, without an appointed director.
We are dedicated to making bold and innovative physical theatre that challenges and moves. We want to inspire thought, provoke questioning and stimulate action in our audiences.
We are interested in an exploring a fragmented physical theatre form - this is more than just an aesthetic choice, it is the shape, we believe, best represents our reality. Through use of provocative visuals and splintered narration we like to investigate the more obscure realms of human nature. We aim to create worlds that are dark and humorous, wild and moving.
We are heavily influenced by the spaces in which we create. The identity of our working environment has a massive impact on the making of a show, and we often seek isolated spaces and communities within which to work. We devised our first piece ‘What’s that Shadow in my Garden?’ in a wild forest in the French countryside. The show was then performed at Wilderness Festival 2012. We created our second piece ‘La Donna è Mobile’ during a month’s residency in the depths of winter, on the remote island of Seiland, 71 degrees north, Norway. ‘La Donna è Mobile’ was performed at Summerhall as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013 where it was nominated for a Total Theatre Award.
