Lily Kiara has been making dance performances since 1989. In 2010 and 2011, she is working on her project ‘Singing to use the waiting’, based on poems by Jorie Graham. Her solo with dance, text and songs, ‘Moving South’ has been seen throughout festivals and theatres in the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, three festivals in Finland and in Russia and Australia. She has been working with Julyen Hamilton since 2005. They created and performed the duet ‘TALK TO ME’ and The BOX, with two double bass players, and danced together in several other pieces.
Other recent pieces are the trio ‘Silent Song’, a dance of stillness, in Greece (2009); a solo for Billie Cook in Australia ‘Have you seen the Horizon lately?’ (2008); pieces in Finnish Lapland, ‘Sit. Feast on your Life.’ and in Stockholm, Sweden, ‘The Grey Room/Come with me’ (2007). Since 1995 she has been collaborating closely with light designer Ellen Knops, who in 2010 has been rewarded with the Jiri Kylian Ring for her outstanding work as a light designer. Lily teaches workshops in Poetry of Making (instant) Dances, and Skinner Releasing Technique throughout different countries.
In 2008 her new solo album ‘On This Ground’ released, on Sibyl Sings, her independent label for music and poetry. The album received praising reviews and has been presented in New York in April 2008 at The Bowery Poetry Club. Earlier albums are ‘No Alibi’ (2001) and ‘SOUTH’ (2006). Lily sings and plays guitar in ‘Songs & Poems’, a new sextet with poet Julyen Hamilton and musicians Michael Moore, Felicity Provan, Michael Vatcher and Joost Buis.
