My output ranges from installations, film - and live performances, theater, theater costumes and a variety of wearables. Because movement is an important aspect in my work, the medium of performance is prevalent throughout. In all my work I'm looking for an interaction. I'm working with dancers, performers and musicians and I myself take part in performances as well.
My artistic work brings about entanglements of sensuous aesthetic caresses and repulsiveness. Disorienting elements are merged with archetypal themes, intimidating stickiness, and smoothness beside rough prickly nature and unbearable heaviness. Slowness and airy playfulness are interwoven with sudden endings. I'm a polyvalent visual artist and performer working with hybrid forms using textiles, ceramics, silkscreen, glass, ink, elastics, watercolors, lasercutters, pencil, video, drawings, wood, mirrors, knitting, paper, people, found objects etc.
Hypnagogic and hypnopmpic slumber images, short flashes occurring before and after the dream stage, often form the basis of my pieces. SlumberS is a collective name for creatures that I make in new local contexts. These hybrid life-works are in continuous flux, evolve over time, as part of an eternal series.
Several SlumberS emerged between 2010 and 2013, as cross-over total concepts. At the moment I'm sketching new ideas for an exhibition in september 2014. Here I'll work about the dubious affaires of human being and nature. I'm also invited for a ceramic residency by EKWC. During my stay there I'll work about my lost loves that metamorphose into plants and flowers.
My creations were shown at various locations at home and abroad such as: BUDA Kortrijk, STUK Leuven, SMAK Ghent, De WERF in Bruges, on location in Bruges, Museum M in Leuven, ElSahara Art Gallery and the Red Sea in Egypt, Centro Selva, the Amazon Rain-forest in Peru and Revolver Gallery in Lima, etc. Besides this, I created performances of very different influences. The most recent example of this is 'Devil's Advocate'.
'Devil's Advocate' was commissioned by Walter Van Haerents as a performance with a connection to 'Sympathy for the Devil', the then current exhibition at Walter Van Haerents Art Collection. Here I started from the myth of Faust which I intertwined with impulses from my personal universe.
I'm looking for unusual spaces that have an interaction with the work and trigger me as an artist. I also was artist in residence and exhibited in the Red Sea in Egypt where knitting works were dancing in the water. After that, I went from the enigmatic underwater world to the Amazon forest in Peru where
I created the Amazon Slumbers performance series. In 2015 and 2016 I'll work at the HISK and the European cermaic centre.
