Call for Performance role the - DRIVER -
Franklin Furnace visual artist Laura Cooper seeks female performers who can drive and ideally have cars of their own for her new work A HUNT NY – IN Pursuit . The performance is a live and mediated intervention happening in SOHO NYC. In Pursuit is a reinterpretation of her 2011 performance called A HUNT that happened in Soho London UK but this time the performance is reworked for the specific location of SOHO in New York City.
In this performance the DRIVER will follow the instructions of a pedestrian performer who will guide them through the SOHO streets late at night, The drivers role will be to react and interpret the pedestrian performers coded instructions and observations. They will be responsible for creating the mood inside the car, which is essential as audience members will be riding in the back seat of the car. Your actions have to be confident and assured and almost handle the car in a typically masculine way. You will occasionally speak or by gesture interact with the car as if it is a animate object or person. It is essential that you can thick fast and react very intuitively and quickly to the improvised and changeable quality of the performance that is subject to its interventionist nature and the reality of the street on the evening of the performance.
Ideally performers must be.
1. Female, or identify themselves as female.
2. Will be confidant and assured drivers in an almost masculine or tomboyish way.
3. Have a car that they can drive as part of the work (ideally but not essential - this is so the relationship with the car is more natural).
4. Be able to work collaboratively and take directions from other performers.
5. Be able to attend all rehearsal and performance dates as well as a rehearsal and the performance with the car (if have one).
6. Aged 21-50, All Ethnicities good.
In pursuit is a chase of sorts involving Cars, Female Performers and a dog. Who will take part in an endless aimless pursuit of an object of desire that remains anonymous, absent and out of reach.
The site-specific event will happen at night from 11pm-12pm on the weekend of the 3rd / 4th of August.
Participants and performance will be required to commit to these performance dates and three rehearsal sessions in happening July/August.
This is an exciting project that will be creative innovative and collaborative in nature, participants will have their performance well documented and the chance to work in an experimental way with a visual artist. There will be a small fee for performers that will cover expenses. Also the work will be well documented (performers provided with copies) as well as exhibited in NY and London.
