During this singular workshop we will work on the unique tradition of Sutartinės, the polyphonic songs of Lithuania. The name "Sutartinės" comes from the word "sutarti" which means "to create harmony" in the old Lithuanian language.
Sutartinės are one of the oldest songs from this region of Europe, their tradition goes back to pagan, pre-Christian times.
In 2010, Sutartinės were added to the UNESCO cultural heritage list.
The songs itself are appearing in different variations and shapes, there are more and less complicated ones.
During this 3 hours of workshop we will work on three simple Sutartinės, possible to learn for anyone also without former musical experience.
During the workshop we will also focus on the exploration of your natural voice. Our ancestors used to sing with a raw, strong, open voice without any musical education; unfortunately nowadays that is not a common skill anymore. We use our voices mostly to talk, we often forgot how much more this medium could offer to us. We will try to learn how to take a deep breath and how to exhale with a strong, healthy voice.
