with performances by Mimosa Pale (FIN) and Wilhelm Klotzek (DE)
curated by Andrés Galeano
The Month of Performance Art (MPA) is a new pilot project which aims to highlight the wealth and diversity of independent performance art practices, currently thriving in Berlin. Due in May 2011, MPA aspires to intersect Berlin-based venues, curators, producers and artists who operate on the boundaries of institutionalised performing arts structures, and thus to reflect the creative force injected by independent cultural players into the city’s contemporary performance art scene. Program info: www.mpa-b.org
For this occasion Grimmuseum is going to host the opening of the MPA project with a presentation of the MPA statement and the performances by two Berlin based artist: Mimosa Pale and Wilhelm Klotzek.
Mimosa Pale *1980. Lives and works in Berlin and Pori (Fin)
Mimosa Pale studied art in Birmingham, Helsinki and Paris. Her artwork is a synthesis of sculpture and performance art. In her often interactive work humour, lust and celebration lead to carnivalesque staging. She likes to switch contexts being it museum, theatre, street or church. She acts in cabaret shows with her singing saw, creates haute-couture for everybody and makes fashion-shows in her Berlin flat. Mimosa Pale has visited various international performance art festivals and is running a hat shop HIMO in Berlin Neukölln.
Wilhelm Klotzek was born 1980 in East Berlin. He studied Sculpture at KHB Berlin and UDK Berlin. Wilhelm published Writings and Books by himself and at AKV Berlin next to his sculpture works. He came to performance by accident while he was talking about his work somebody says: "what you are doing is a performance..." From this point on, he starts to connect his sculptures and writings with the medium of the acting body.
