n this workshop, Norihito Ishii proposes an introduction to Japanese contemporary butoh from his experience as both a butoh dancer and contemporary dancer. We will work with the choreographic patterns of contemporary dance as well as more freely, moving the body from images and concepts created in the imagination. We will visit the movement basis and foundations of Butoh, including the art of walking.
Born in 1984 and raised in Tokyo, Norihito Ishii began his dance career at the age of 17, and has been a solo performer and choreographer since 2007.
He has been working in solo and has created works of art since 2007, he tries to reach the audience working on the concept of insane and universal beauty inherent in the human body, he seeks in his art the truth of our society, he has performed in more than 70 cities in 23 countries.
Since 2010, he is a Sankai Juku dancer, a butoh's veteran company, based at the Theater of the City of Paris, (http://sankaijuku.com/sankaijuku_e.htm).
He has also conducted numerous dance and contemporary butoh workshops mixed with patterns of urban dance, both in Japan and abroad; Malaysia, Korea, Singapore and Bulgaria and is also the founder of the dance company DEVIATE.CO.
His performances are based on contemporary dances as well as the Japanese Butoh dance. In 2013, he received the Japan Foundation Award among other accolades including the Seoul International Choreography Festival SFC Award in 2015.
