By developing the Borderline Biennale in a triptych configuration, its second chapter dedicated to "Survive the Apocalypse" Thierry Ehrmann, artist, founder of Artprice and creator of the legendary Abode of Chaos, had without a doubt a prophetic vision.
Rarely have we seen in the history of art an event in such adequation with its time.
Art is dead and we know it, killed by mundane cancers.
Art is dead and many so-called avant-gardes are already obsolete. By transforming contemporary art into basic consumables, whose originals become speculative titles and their reproductions simple decorative accessories sold at super markets, the Temple Merchants have stripped art of its conceptual essence and its sense of critique. Amidst the cemetery of contemporary creations, the artist becomes a mere grave-digger of preconceived ideas; a pirate of our amputated reality, his role must be to show what we deny to see, as opposed to trying to please the masses. Art cannot be such without the commitment through which the artist expresses himself beyond consensus, apriorism and censorship.
Art cannot be such without freedom.
The artist, drowning in the flood of information, may bear witness to the world and imagine our future solely by unyeilding observations of the state of current affairs. A visionary, the artist foresees the mutations of our era, anticipates the transformation of our aesthetical, ideological and social values. The world's heartbeat as his metronome, his art is an action. The chaos of our times becomes his materia prima, his fertile ground. History's strength is such that it is his duty to become its narrator.
The Borderline Biennale will take place from august 18th until september 18th 2011 in the Abode of Chaos.
- No program :
Those who want to know will find out.
- No Press :
All communications for the event will take place via our own networks -Abode of Chaos Propaganda ; no press means no biased articles, no misuse, no pressure of advertisement and no appropriation from outside medias. All photos and videos will be hosted on our own servers and will not be subjected to censorship.
- No Money :
Subventions often lead to compromises which we are not (and never will be) willing to make. In order to preserve our freedom of creation and expression and retain integrity and coherence, we are refusing all forms of funding from governments or institutions whose goal as we know would be usurpation No subvention = No submission. The Borderline is entirely financed with private funds.
...The event is free to the public.
But let us be reassured, as Marshall McLuhan states, "Obsolescence (as well as chaos may I add) never meant the end of anything, just the beginning"
